Phonics and Early Reading Curriculum Statement
At Herrick Primary School, we are passionate about ensuring all children develop strong foundations for reading and writing. Children in the EYFS and KS1 are taught through a daily systematic and synthetic phonics program and receive regular guided reading sessions with trained staff, developing their decoding skills through segmenting and blending and enhancing prosody and comprehension skills with a range of phonetically appropriate texts.
We recognise that reading is fundamental life skill and our aim is to equip every child with the tools to become a fluent and confident reader who enjoys literature far beyond their school years.
