Long term leave of absence over 3 days
Short absence

If your child is ill please keep him/her at home until he/she is fully recovered.

Please phone the school if you need to keep your child at home on 01162665656. Please include your child's name and class and the reason for their absence if you are leaving a voice message.

It is essential that all absence is supported by a note, email, verbal message or telephone call.

Any unexplained absence will be termed as 'unauthorised'.

From 1st September 2013 new legislation was put into place by central Government with regards to children taking holidays in term time. The reference in law to Head teachers being able (at their discretion) to agree up to ten days of leave of absence has been removed.

Instead, the legal reference has been amended and means that schools should not authorise leave of absence unless:
  • The Head teacher considers that there are exceptional circumstances relating to the application AND
  • An application has been made in advance by the parent/carer
Penalty Notices will be issued from Leicester City Council for parents who take their children on holiday in term time. Penalty Notice charges at present are
  • £60 per child, per parent if paid within 21 days of receipt of the notice and
  • £120 if paid within 28 days.
Please be aware that the local authority can issue the penalty if the school obtains evidence that an unauthorised holiday has been taken.

As a result of this change in law the Governors have amended their school policy. Since September 2013 NO holiday has been authorised unless the Head teacher and Chair of Governors considered the request to be an exceptional circumstance.

If you wish the Head teacher and Chair of Governors to consider your request the following actions should be taken –
  • Request form to be collected from the school office.
  • Forms MUST be completed and returned at least 10 days before the first day requested.
  • If the form is not returned 10 days prior then the leave will automatically be unauthorised.
The Head teacher and Chair of Governors will look at each request individually. Previous holidays, attendance and the child's class work will all be taken into account when making the final decision.

Please note:
leave will be granted for any child in Year 2 or Year 6.
No leave will be granted for any child who has any 'unauthorised' absences.

Parents should make every effort to send their children to school every day otherwise their learning is disrupted. Children should only be absent if they are ill, otherwise the permission of the school is required before any absence can be considered.

If children who attend Nursery are absent for a period of time for anything other than illness, they will be removed from the Nursery Register and their place will be given to another child. This is because children may be waiting for Nursery places and we cannot leave them vacant.
